This day is sad for Lady Rhyme,
cut down so cruelly in her prime.
Free verse fiends now rule the pages,
where Rhyme had triumphed o'er the ages.
Yes, Rhyme is dead and buried here,
no longer thriving, bringing cheer.
All that's left is boring prose;
random metaphor, no one knows.
Remember how we liked to rhyme,
with metered flow, that was sublime.
So rest in peace beloved verse,
victim of non-rhymer's curse.

I write a little of everything, free verse, poetry, prose poetry, but mainly I like fiction. An unfortunate situation on a poetry site, lol. Yes, a lot of the still-wet-behind-the-ears youngsters here tend to disparage rhyming poetry, and I understand why, a lot of it isn't good, but what they don't realize is, most of their free verse isn't good either, lol. I just write and let others worry about what they like and don't like.

Hi Yemassee, thank you for reading. Like you I enjoy writing fiction. I think AP has a site for stories if you check bottom of page, though mine are on another site! I do appreciate your constructive comments, thank you.

A bit abbreviated according to the contest rules, but still a lovely poem and tribute to Rhyme, well pointing out the cause of Lady Rhymes decline, adding to her demise.
Well done!

Here here!
'victim of non-rhymer's curse.' ~ too right, my friend!
Sad how so many are so critical of rhyming poetry. (As I mentioned to someone else, I think it's simply a case of 'rhyme-envy'!
). I always wince when I see in the 'Rules' part of any contest: "No pedestrian rhyme".
Perhaps rhymers should state: "No pedestrian prose or free verse", and wait for the hue and cry!
Anyhoo...I think this piece is great, and a fitting eulogy for our beloved rhyme.
Well penned, and best of luck in this contest

This is just beautiful. Very well done. Indeed:
Remember how we liked to rhyme,
with metered flow, that was sublime.
We might be called outfashioned, but I still like to read the rhyming verses from the past and I wonder what will happen to free verse in a century.
