If this is the game
That I must play,
Hide me here
From the light of day,
Deep beneath the heavy earth,
In my grave I lie,
When you are already dead,
There’s no way you can die.
So smile in the dark,
There’s no sun here,
No prying light that burns,
Naught but blackness,
Doubt and Fear,
My soul for these things yearns
And on the world turns,
Feel my bite within the shadows,
Reaching for your icy soul,
You must beware, for I will take you,
Open wide and swallow you whole
That’s what the world has done to me,
And so I’ll do to you...
So whisper a prayer and shed a tear,
It’s time to see this through.
So smile in the dark,
There’s no sun here,
No prying light that burns,
Naught but blackness,
Doubt and Fear,
My soul for these things yearns
And on the world turns.
Do you see the shadows rising?
Up against the bloody sky?
Do you see the darkness growing,
As your flame begins to die?
But now your life is near it’s ending,
In my hand I hold your soul,
It is too late, for I have taken,
And now my friend, to swallow you whole.
Author notes
This started as song lyrics, but after two verses... I decided to expand it into poem form. It follows my usual theme of the Macabre. Not an extraordinary work by any stretch of the imagination... but I enjoyed writing it and hope that you enjoy reading it.

well, i certainly enjoyed the read, that's for sure!
i believe this is the first of yours i've read, but, i will definately read more!
there seems to be much metaphor within your words, am i right?
if so, i can't figure out some of them...
but, in time, as i read more of your work, i'll learn more on how to read it, and how to understand it, that is, of course, if there is any other understandings within your words!
blessed be

Well...I enjoyed reading it
When I first started reading it I had thought it was lyrics, then I read your comment
. Not that that is a bad thing of course, it is still very well done.
