Addiction Conviction

Addiction,
such a dirty word
Foaming at the mouth
for a two second
in your face fix.
Sunglasses block the gateway
to her soul.
She's damaged.
She's prays to Jesus
who runs through her blood
She prays the dead spirit in her
head.
Her addiction is her life.
Coke Heroin whore
flying on hopes
and midnight dreams.
She runs away in the dead of night.
No one misses this junkie.
Her eyes are colored with uselessness
and the desire to end it.
One more chase of freedom
one more shot of hope.
She makes a deal with the devil
and pockets the precious gift.
She's the Angel Addict
with the crooked halo.

In life we find that sometimes the worst secrets are our greatest fears, they are the creep within the night that makes us escape to the light, they are the harsh words we've needed to hear, the wishes we've been without, yet for our dreams to keep us high, we must fight out our inner instincts, to find the sun rise, to find ourself, wash away the tears, pretend that dreams are all they seem to be, that sometimes it is what we do not notice, what we leave out, and what we forget that brings us thru, and when we take the time, to step back on those little stepping stones left behind, when we recapture the rain drops of time, and when we once again reach out to find our soul, asking god and begging jesus, help is in us, it has always been there, and it will always be there. An addiction is simply a reflection of a judgement you didnt wish upon yourself, but that you struck out on another, it is the hope that you have inside to change, and to reasure yourself, that you are stronger than you think, than you give yourself credit for, a hope and a desire, to be struck by lightening inside yourself! *this was a wonderful poem, every word sparked a new flavorful emotion, a temptation to take that poisened skittle and fling it out the window* Life has funny ways of bringing us to.

Strong write here about a problem that is all too prevalent in this world. I am coming to the realization that we all are addicted to something and we, each, must reach inside, address it and fight it all the way. I know kids addicted to video games now. What you painted in words here was of such a ghostly nature that it left disturbing images in my head. That's a good thing! It means you've got talent. Thank you for touching on and sharing a subject that is too close to home for most, if not all, of us. Powerful!--Kel

    'She's the Angel Addict
    with the crooked halo'.
I love that line too. Beautiful.
I like this poem because it doesn't go about the usual routine of flowery pretense of rhyme, it's raw and untainted. Love it.

  • Loved the last two lines...the imagery in this was strong and it took me on a dark and twisted journey. Nice write, I really enjoyed this.
