Marble Staircase

Levitated up from cocoon
Hovering above others
Peering down at them
Metallic silver particles
Surround transparent cases
Containing comatosed faces
Seemingly serene

Only I rise
Unaware of my destiny
Why am I awake

Force propels me forward
And upward
Through maroon gas like cloud
Dimly I perceive
A stairway

Bare feet set upon marble
Freely I move now
Surface chilling flesh
Compelled to walk up
Blue veins streak steps
I study them
Worn centres
Many others preceded me

I would return
To my safe warm haven
To drift in sleep
Yet I must continue
Knowing not why

Innards melt
My centre is rushing water
Fear troubles me

Up and on I go
Step after step
Purple mist fades
Skies opening up

Suddenly
Startled

I see

The phantasmagorical scene
Before my eyes
Is familiar
Like a loved voice
An overplayed song

It is radiant
Stunning
And home

I had to awaken
From long slumber
Rise and walk
To reach my destiny
The place I originated from
Long before I was born

A glimpse of a future that is not yet here, perhaps to set our mind at ease concerning our fate. Yesterday we were barely able to predict what today would bring; our plans are attempts to anticipate the works of structures and mechanisms of a world that puzzles us more often than it confirms our views. I hope this powerful view that you reflected in the poem may be a comfort to you in times when life appeals faintly and seems reluctant to offer more reason to continue to struggle on. Thank you for creating and sharing. May chance be at your side in the contest. Take care,

    Chris

Thanks for entering. This is interestingly thought prevoking. Great imagery, and good content without spelling it out too much!

    Good luck in my contest
