What To Lose

“What do you have to lose?”

When I’m with you, my heart beats.
It contains no measure or meter.
It beats out a static rhythm of
    apprehensiveness.

What would I lose,
if I told you how I felt?

What would I surrender?
What an ignorant question…
If I ever told you how I felt
I would lose you.

Author notes

A lot of times people will ask.... what would you lose if you told the person that you likes him. Well....they are ignorant to ask that question.... you have everything to lose...

I agree with you, it's not in my personality to reveal it, but for someone else it's the right thing to do. We are all individuals that will handle situations differently. I hate when people try to force you to do something that you know you can't handle. Very well written, great poem. Thank you for entering the contest, good luck.

    Excellent

I think it's best to keep that question to yourself.
It is a lot better, then having your heart broken in the end.
    Well penned piece of poetry.
    Well done.
Keep up with the great work.
    Keep on penning.
Thank you so very much for sharing your talents with us.

This is so true. When you break down your defenses, you lose control over the other person. I never want to do that. Good point. Nice write. Shancy

Donna darling, you are awesome! This is very easy to relate to. I have been there, believe me. Better sometimes to keep a friend and let go..........sometimes......to your best ability......YOU KNOW! lol

Well, that surely is one opinion. I read somewhere that we have not because we ask not. You don’t have to jump on someone with both hands and both feet to let them know you like them. Sometimes all you have to do is show an interest in what they are interested in and what they do to make them realize THEY like YOU. Note from a 61 year old: The more mature a person gets, the less they tend to call other people ignorant. Experience speaks volumes. WFTW.

So true and I have felt this feeling because I have a good friend at school and I like him so much but I am so scared to tell him. Great write!

    this was good

I liked this one because it takes me way back to when the guy I liked for 4 years 6th-9th grade found out I liked him and he hated me but before he knew we were on friendly terms, and to this day he still hates me for it and we are now 20 years old!!! so yes sometimes you do have everything to lose! excellent write! I can totally relate!!!
