I’ve learned to notice the beauty in little things,
wild flowers, sunsets, clouds, a smile.
To breathe, and take one day at a time.
To realize the rough times aren’t forever.
To hope, to dream, to cherish life.
From you I’ve learned what it means to trust,
what genuine love looks and feels like.
How to accept help, and how to help myself.
I’ve learned that feelings are to be respected,
and that crying isn’t shameful.
That happiness is something we all deserve.
I’ve learned to believe in a power greater than myself,
and that a tender touch, a hug, or a gentle, knowing smile
is sometimes the best medicine.
The most important thing I’ve learned is,
I am the only person I can change,
and to succeed I must continue to look within.
