Cows jiggle-trot
when the barn comes in sight.
Heavy hoofs mire in mud.
Mid-afternoon and dark
as a cave - cold as a glacier.
Sludge of mud sucks the farmer's boot
deep into its bosom, where it clings
with tenacious force.
Out by the barn -
one lone crocus bivouacs.

Got to love that muck sucking in your boots in the winter. Lots of extra chores come winter time - city folk know nothing about this part - nice cow - good meat. Buy it at the store!

LOVE your name! Very clever mind at work. I know that fringe personally - LOL. Thanks for the kind words on this poem! Somehow the memory of one lone crocus trying its best to peek above an unforgiving winter day has stuck in my mind. Tenancity such as that is what we all need.
