Christmas Carol Re-Write Competition entry #1

(To the tune of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen")
Written in collaboration with my sister.

God rest ye merry gentlefolk,
For heavy are your eyes,
And bags hang dark beneath them,
But that is no surprise.
For Christmas comes but once a year,
With all its toil and care.
O-ohh Shoppers and buyers beware!
Buyers beware!
O-ohh Shoppers and buyers beware!

We started out at Wally-World,
But much to our dismay -
The aisles all were crowded,
And Santa'd gone away.
For two long hours we stood and scowled,
But all their shelves were bare.
O-ohh Shoppers and buyers beware!
Buyers beware!
O-ohh Shoppers and buyers beware!

We made our way o'er to the mall,
To buy some Christmas cheer.
But found nothing to deck our halls,
And parking was a fear.
We finally tried to go back home,
Through many traffic scares.
O-ohh Shoppers and buyers beware!
Buyers beware!
O-ohh Shoppers and buyers beware!

Now this great lesson we have learned,
When Christmas-time is nigh;
To save the money we have earned,
And bake an apple pie.
Our family time should valued be,
More than the gifts we bear.
*Pause*
And start shopping in January!
January!
And start shopping in January!

Author notes

Our family friends have a long-standing tradition of holding a Christmas Music Party at their house, where the background music and entertainment is provided by all involved. This year they held a contest for re-written Christmas carols - rewrite the words to and existing tune or make up a song altogether and then perform it for the other guests and the judges. This song was written and performed by my sister, Crista and me -- we took first place overall for best performance :-P . We had a lot of fun with this one.
