Salvage the Forgotten

Missing image

I have a carved box buried in my heart.

When the receding rush begins to fade,

when there is little difference

between looking back and the future,

between who I was and might be;

I pick through the scattered debris,

salvage the forgotten,

claim the fragmented treasures left behind

before time begins to wash away the past.

And I remember to breathe.

Wuah I love this! I love the depth you put to this piece, looking to the future and wondering how close it might be to the past... That's what I saw in this piece. How the past and future collide together in the moment we live in... Beautiful, beautiful piece of poetry!

The opening and ending lines are very strong, and I adore the background you used for this one. Thanks for adding this one to the contest; I love this one a lot!

Wow. What an excellent take on the prompt here. Every line seems to hold this incredible intensity moving from one to the next. Depth of ache apparent, and yet hopeful in its entirety... to hold onto the memories...

The opening line itself just blew me away. Wonderful write!

I love the introspection of this. And that you described a moment we all come to in life that I don't think I would have been able to.

    This is really beautiful.

Suzanne, I think you under estemate yourself...

there are no limits when words and soul dance. I simply look at a picture once for a moment and then write what ever comes when I close my eyes.

      thanks for reading.
