she's laying down
her full house on the table
he's looking up with a smile
so full of confidence
'as always'
she thinks as she looks away
finding herself smiling
she wonders
oh, yes, she wonders
she's got her own king of hearts at home
tonight though
she's looking for an ace of spades
he's a little arrogant
maybe just what she needs now
someone so sure
of himself and
of what he wants
another glance
before she can stop
this betraying line of thought
he's still watching her
like a precious bird
to be captured and displayed
her eyes sparkling deviously at the idea
she picks her hand up
to push some of his dark hair away from his eyes
'beautiful'
she thinks
she catches herself
puts her hand back down on the table
he noticed
suddenly standing
grabs both of her wrists
and pulls her up so that her lips meet his
surprised,
she moves away from him
looking into his blue-green eyes
he smirks
drawing her close again
one instant
then
her hand behind his head
a sultry kiss
he pauses, smiling,
locked in the close embrace of new lovers
he flips his cards over
watching his new queen
straight flush of spades.
ace high.

Thanks for entering. There was a line limit in this contest. It's a great poem, except it doesn't meet the rules.

I really love the ending of this one... and the fact that it plays out very nicely with the line breaks and wording in that it didn't feel choppy. This is one of the best romantic card related poems in the contest, good work.
