Reflections of 2007

Midnight 2007 I heard the fireworks explode
as I sat here at my computer in typing mode.
It was a poem (picture inspired) that made my heart break
making me think of our world and all that's at stake.
I wanted to reach out through the screen to give a dying child a cuddle,
to say it will be alright, we'll get you out of this muddle.
With tears in my eyes I felt for the father holding this child,
reminded of mankind's atrocities made me feel quite reviled.

This really gave me a reality check as I took a moment to look around me,
I had to give thanks for all I have and the fact that I'm free.
I often feel so depressed and give in to self compassion,
but I don't live in a country at war, daily looking death in the face and relying on rations.

As I kept pondering upon this world's plight
I realised there are many who are taking up the fight.
The fight for peace and equality using many different voices,
so that all who live on this earth will be able to make free choices.
The voice of the poet, human rights activists and those who give aid,
making sure those who suppress will not integrity evade.

So as we enter a new year the voice of hope will get louder to erase the hate
as we make those in power, accountable in 2000 and eight.

I really do hope that this year the world will get it's act together and work as one to quash some of the atrocities going on in this world, you have penned from the heart of not just yourself but many, many others

Maybe one day there will be enough voices to be heard. This is one of your most powerful poems that I have read and I doubt that there would be anyone who would disagree with what you've said so eloquently.

    Happy New Year...

There's a lot of wisdom in this work poet! I'm in total agreement! Let's hope for a better 2008 for the poor and the weak, the old and the sick, the young and the vulnerable... Excellent poem!
