And That's Good

The sun sets below the horizon,
It's last dying rays reflected off the ocean water.
Lying on the California beach,
feeling the grainy sand, where the warmth of the sun still lingers.
And that's good.

Darkest night,
Lying by the embers of a long gone campfire.
The trees whisper to you their secrets, enticed by the wind.
The man in the moon chuckles at an untold joke high above you,
while the stars twinkle in reply.
And that's good.

Curled up in a ball in your bed,
Comforter drawn tight on this cold winter night.
The shadows dance and monsters groan.
A creature jumps on the bed; small, warm, and furry.
He drives away the demons with bright eyes and thunderous purr.
Climbing on top of you, all settle down for a sweet sleep.
And that's good.

Higher, higher, higher!
Regardless of reaching branches, sinister leaves.
Still higher, desperately fighting time.
Breaking the surface of this sea of leaves,
You stare out in awe at the endless trees.
Covered in gold, as the sun rises anew.
That's good, too.

Idly walking through the forest,
Along a quiet path in the morning.
The chitter of squirrels, sweet song frmo a bird, heavy panting of your pup.
Sitting with your back against the great redwood,
Staring out at a sight that may not last long.
But for the moment, still and perfect.
And life goes on.
And that's good.
