Men put justice into the night
among brights, stars
over clouds, and moon
and gleaming. Seeming to be
scales in hand of blind justice.
And below all upon the earth
they made conquest and slaves
concubines of captured beauty.
Consumed ages of gains, wealth
and society’s growing pains
in sweeping days of war and predation;
beneath beauty of starry skies,
and bold unseeing eyes in the air;
Libra was the conscience of man,
afar in stars where it could do no harm.
Author notes
Option three. Zodiac symbol as imagery/metaphor
Recently, Gliese 581 c, the first Earth-like extrasolar planet to be found within its parent star's habitable zone, has been found in orbit around the star Gliese 581 in the constellation Libra, raising the question of whether it has life[1].

The first time I read this poem, I clearly saw how Libra represented human justice, and I liked the message -- since it is justice, how easily it can be ignored when it's not on Earth with us. Out of sight, out of mind, they say. Then when I reread, I saw all the alliteration, the subtle rhyming, the thought put into its creation. I like how these words come together to form meaning through their definitions, sounds, and the way they "interact" with one another. Thanks so much sharing your poem, it was quite an interesting read.

"Libra was the conscience of man,

I am a Libra...I've always carried the weight of the world on my shoulders...I think I was born an Old Soul, which of course led to being a Poet. A wonderful penning. Good luck in the contest.
