I watch your mouth
making wild patterns
in bright splashes of
monosyllables.
I nod.
I smile.
I shrug.
watching, all the while
your words fly in the air
& I try to catch each one
as it falls and breaks,
leaving
holes
behind.
raking up excuses,
dusting up apologies
I watch as you lose
the words
that fall-
like torrents
onto your
smile.
I finger them-
the three that
say
‘I love you’.
& leave the rest
that say- ‘it’s over’.

Across The Universe (The Beatles)
1.
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup, they slither wildly as they slip away across the universe.
