The War

The angels have fallen from God’s Holy Grace
Absorbing the dark of a dastardly place,
And just like the sinners that soon lie beneath
They give way to wild moaning and gnashing of teeth.

Just like the rain they fell down from the sky,
And just like the thunder they groan and they cry.
Just like the lightnings that dance with delight
Their grimaces widen to darken the night.

For they follow a master with large open wings
That when fully extended an orchestra sings.
A wicked creation, never contrite,
Skillfully catering to mans’ delight.

The breath of his spirit resides in the tongue.
Sweet are the words exhaled by the lung.
Indulgence of flesh concealed by lies
Are sordid examples of what he implies.

Lust and desire, power and greed
Are the shoes that he has shorn to his steed.
A promise of joy without reprimand
Is a favorite deceit that is at his command.

He appears as a thirst with no conscience or blame
And promises strength to the legs of the lame.
The ruler of many, the maker of none,
A spurious display to the things that he’s done.

His helmet is sloth.  Deceit is his lance.
Hate is well stitched in the hem of his pants.
Woe is the winds upon which he rides
That blankets us over like sand in the tides.

Our pride is his army, envy his fort
Where masses of troubles writhe and contort.
Our hearts are his solace, his refuge and home,
A place where his minions and demons can roam.

Where can we run to hide from his face?
That mirror reflecting our total disgrace.
How can we flee from the bard of our shame,
And the mutinous songs of contemptuous blame?

For evil is faithful to a man of the world
With a tongue full rudder and sail unfurled.
Where the trials of our lives begin to take toll
And his grip tightens round the neck of our souls.

Is there an escape from the jaws of that beast,
To whom every day we sup and we feast?

Well have you heard of the Angels of God’s Holy Land,
Dispersing the faith in a future well planned?
Just like the children that soon dwell above
They stand strong in good tidings and thoughts thereof.

Just like the sun, they shine through the rain,
True bearers of glory to silence the pain.
Just like the stars that twinkle with glee,
They glow through the heavens for all souls to see.

For they follow a master with large open hands
That when fully extended all evil disbands.
Our one true creator exclusive of flaw
Who has given us Love, his Son, and the Law.

The fire of His spirit resides in the heart,
The glorious third of Gods’ counterpart.
A care for what’s pure and provisions of peace
Are humble examples of the things he’ll release.

Self-sacrifice and charity, meekness and goodwill
Are inscriptions that are in our mind written by his quill.
A promise of grace with love unforsook
Are some of the tenets that are found in his book.

He quenches our hunger, forgives us our blame
And freely gives strength to the faithfully lame.
Commander of legions, creator of all,
An immeasurable foe to those that would fall.

His sword is his spirit, his helmet salvation,
The hem of his robe is all of creation.
His truth is a gentle, warm tender breeze
That tests our devotion and answers our pleas.

We are all His soldiers gathered in formation.
Dedicated warriors giving supplication.
Our lives are his possession, his word abounds inside,
Along with where his doctrines and values abide.

What can we sin that hides us from grace,
To keep us from seeing our Masters face?
So we stand face to face with the bard of our shame
And silence the songs of contemptuous blame.

For God is so faithful to a man of the word
With a tongue in the harbor and captain deterred.
Where trials are a blessing and death has no hold
Satan can’t pass where Angels stand bold.

So can we escape from the jaws of the beast,
With whom every day we still sup and we feast?

Alas!  The lord says there is hope for you yet
My mind is made up and the time has been set.
Believe in my pledge and evil will flee
And your spirit will bathe in harmony.
Cry out to your God with a joyful plea,
Your resolve will be strong and your heart will be free.
Don’t suffer your mind with tawdry sin.
Allow my Son to reside within.
Fashion yourself according to Him.
Be a part of the tree that bears life to the limb.
For prophecy states what will happen to wrong
And the path that is easy compared to the long.
So temper your voice to cry out and to sing,
Proclaiming the gospel of the One True King.
When all of the world has passed away
Have you read in detail what the prophecies say?
Satan will live in the land that he’s sown,
Finally the king of a deserving throne!

Author notes

This is another old one. I never took time to edit the areas that were out of rythym with the rest. Thought I would put it up anyway.

The rhythm actually hurts in places - some of the words aren't quite what I might have chosen. Very powerful last lines, if greatly discomforting.

"We are all His soldiers gathered in formation" - nice pun, I love the double meaning.

A long, sustained and thoughtful craft, despite my dislike of compulsive rhyme.

Wow... this was well worth the wait Elijah! But honestly what took so long! I was missing your extraordinary poetry.
Anyway, this was just fantastic. You are obviously a person of much Faith and I admire and somewhat envy that quality. You used wonderful rhyming and great imagery in this. Lovely job. Don't take another two months to post another poem alright!?
