Late afternoon sun
sinks through my tanned skin,
warming the marrow
in my bones.
My sister and I
lie silently,
listening to the tall, tall grass
whispering in the gentle breeze.
I reach out blindly
and find her hand,
wishing I could apologize
for being a stupid big sister.
Her hand squeezes mine
and my heart soars.
My unspoken apology
had been accepted.

A great moment of well wrangled imagery.

Nice. Gentle and quietly elegant. The poem is controlled, tight, compressed, and musical--and along the way manages to find room for understated emotion, perhaps the most difficult kind to create in poetry.
