To sum it up, the world is in a state,
as cads, assassins, hoodlums celebrate,
as war and pestilence are riding down
and presidents consider donning crowns,
with multitudes beset by many trials -
where in the world is rationale for smiles?
Consider, if you will, the total loss
if hope is gone, and tragedy is boss,
if kindness and its thanks are put aside,
if friendliness and courage only hide.
Then can't we give ourselves a cheerful grin,
and help ensure that everyone can win?
Forget the days when one was not enough
to change the world - we All are of One stuff!
We work and share already, let's increase
the circle of our love, and harvest peace.

with multitudes beset by many trials -

amen. the sad thing i find though is when one does take a stand in these times, one is thrown anger and mocked. and then frustration is curled on the face. hope will never be lost - a good poem.

Thanks for looking in Ian - four others followed you, but only you commented, so only you receive my gratitude. You make a good point, the negativity in the world is reaching intolerable levels. I quit listening to news media years ago, they are usually wrong, especially if they try to analyse and project. The angry mockers are never happy in themselves, poor souls. More power to you (and me!).

Nice thoughts, Margaret. We work and share already, but the root of all the problem is that we, both individuals and nations, are after bigger and bigger shares of what is already with us in abundance.

thank you Venu
Yes, indeed. We have a mentality of wanting and not of gratitude for what we have. It is rare and refreshing to see people respond to the world with joy.
All the best to you in 2009!

I must have missed this ...
bit of wisdom to ponder but you have reinforced the ONE thought that shouldn't be ignored as we live and grow ... "We work and share already, let's increase
the circle of our love, and harvest peace." and your author's notes was spot on. A good poem in good order. joy

I had almost forgotten this, thanks for looking it up! Most of the people in the world are working for good. We see what we believe - we are what we think.
I'm happy you enjoyed reading.

Art form of octet, quatrain, and octet
in rhymed couplets is integral to your delivery.
Your poetry is the neo-Pope-esque writing for our century in poems such as these with their classical structure and concentration on the plight of man. The proper study of mankind is man, as Pope said. Unlike Pope, you see the positive and not the satirically negative, styled with vehement attack. "we All are of One stuff!" has hints of the earlier Donne's "No man is an island entire unto itself".
You do not use the C17 - C18 habit of appeal to deux ex machina and the gods but rather use common language of millions: " and tragedy is boss,
" simply one example.
Lovely to read and digest. Ron.

Very nice poem about hope and the future. Good rhyming scheme. Happy trails

Very eloquently put.
There are a lot of sick people in this world my friend. It is time to be positive and not give in to the drama, that people tend to make of their lives to get attention.
Once we learn to live with ourselves the rest should fall slowly in to place, well one would hope.

Hear, hear!
Wonderful - as ever!

You're so right sweetpea, the world is not as we knew it, but hopefully there are a lot of decent folk out there who will want to see a better world in the near future. All we can do is send a white light to cover the world with healing and send all our love to every corner of the world.
My wish for 2008 is that we do have peace and happiness as you say and most of all love for our fellow man for without love, it'll be a sad world.
Beautifully written and expressed my dear Friend.

Yes, good thoughts that this will finally take place the next year, written by your wonderful pen.

I haven't seen the word cads in a while, but it well describes many of the so called leaders of the world. Keep hoping for a return to honesty and loving kindness. And praying for same.
