Twilight from an attic window
The sun bids the city streets farewell.
Lingering on the far horizon the dying embersof his fiery countnance
paint the sky in twilight colours.
High above in the stratosphere vapor trails criss cross the pale canvas
White tendrils turn to gold touched by fingers of light reach hevenward
in one last gesture of defiance
A sharp report rings out shattering the near silence and sending a thousand starlings screeching high above the city streets
Reeling twisting and turning with one collective mind guiding and synchronising every twist and turn of their headlong flight.
Pinpoints of light at first shy and demure await the darkness
Soon they will transform themselves Camielion like in all their eye catching glory
Briliant reds and greens followed by garish orange each vieing to catch the eye in the dark city streets.
Around them Neon lights rude and obtrusive
try to push back the night.
High above the city streets and avenues insects are held captive in the glare of electric blue lights
Held captive in prisons without walls Unable or unwilling to brake free from the hypnotic light that brings a kind of madness as they dash themselves in headlong flight against the burning rods.
A cloak of darkness now covering the city hides her imperfections bedecked in garish jewels that shimmer in the dark.
Like Cinderella however she must revert to sackcloth and ashes before the sun rises
Once more laying bare every wart and imperfection.
