We weep with the moon DEDICATION:Benazir Bhutto

Created for this earth in ancient times

long ago,

to Shine clarity & expose truth.

An Eternal Light shines,

casting upon us tender rays of mercy and hope.

A Witness to all,  generations past

and present, revealing shadows of

man's deeds, lovers feast, laborous

births, wretched wars, and killing fields.

Hear the words of "Machaivelli" echo

"Wars begin where you will, but

don't end when you please."

In this year of two thousand and seven,

a woman who dared to champion the

moon, shared her dreams of peace and

hope for her beloved and tormented people.

I, a grandmother, mother, daughter, simple

being of earth also learn to struggle and hope

most powerfully on earth.

Boldly we women have cried, our tears unleashed

sweeping, cleansing, ignored.

Benazir Bhutto, a woman of fearless strength

who loved her Pakistan homeland more than threat

of death. Reached, painfully breaking through to give

her homeland  of Pakistan "substantial" and "honorable"

life.

Bullets and shrapnel will not stop her voice.

We women on earth, now speak her prayers of love.

The flesh you can bury, her spirit you cannot.

This humble woman asks?

Has "hatred" and "change" calloused your hearts?

The two greatest historical fears mankind generously deny's.

We of all colors, beliefs, and faiths

celebrate your life, your precious and bold gift.

Dear Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq, we your

sisters, of Eastern and Western nations,

weep,

at the loss of such a magnificent gift.

Benazir Bhutto. What was  your deed to

generate such a hateful death?

"Peace"

We wipe the blood you have spilled from her flesh

and prayerfully we pick up where she left off...you are

not able to silence all our prayers, we women know

without us...you have no future sons, soldiers to bear.

"Peace"

Is your heart too weary to hear?

Benazir Bhutto, our most brave and tender sister of such

deep courage and sorrow, we honor you and promise

to not lose hope. We women will carry on tearfully without

you.

We weep with the moon.

Assasinated Friday, December 27, 2007.

Author notes

( Commented on poet' entries)

Dedication for a woman I have admired for many years now.
She caught my attention first on CNN.

Educated in America, she returned from exile to her beloved homeland of Pakistan willing to give her life so her people could
have a voice and breath to end the violence and live of a life of peace. The anguish of all mothers tears is the
yearning for peace. It is not her spirit they killed,
only her flesh, it is now up to us to carry on with
her dearest of prayers, "peace"

    So Amazingly Said

Benzahir Bhutto was perhaps the world's finest woman. She had beliefs that could have and should have changed the way things are over in Pakistan and perhaps the Middle-East itself. She had a voice that said, "shut up and listen." It is sickening that someone felt threatened by change. That's what Ms. Bhutto was all about, change. She was tired of seeing her fellow Pakistani citizens dying for ridiculous reasons. She was tired of being hated by people who weren't going to do anything to help her. She was quieted far too early by cowards who probably wish they could bring her back. They probably realized far too late that she was the voice of the people. She had the keys to a better life for all of Pakistan and they stole them from her. Thank you for sharing.

By the way, did you know that Benzahir Bhutto has friends in Vermont and New England? She went to Harvard and kept in contact with the friends she made. I thought that was cool.

      No.

It was her father, not her brother, who was assasinated.

    Wow

This has me in goosebumps and tears. She was such a shining light in the world. Will we never have peace?
She was a leader and a simple woman who cared. Her heart was huge enough to encapsulate the entire world. Pakistan has been cut to the quick.

    beautiful tribute

I applaud you! This piece is so moving, I heartfelt. I had not realized that everytime I heard the name Benazir Bhutto that it was actually a woman, to my embarassment. I have recently(a couple of months ago)learned that, and I had been impressed by that fact only, many more since.my point is She was a great figure/ symbol for peace and progress, and the world
is a little poorer for having lost her.

True! Very true...wonderful sentiments. Just one thing..."Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq" and later you say "We wipe the blood you have spilled from her flesh"...but the blood wasn't spilled by "Pakistan" or any of those countries. In fact, even Pakistan knew that the only way out for them was Benazir's way...

    excellent

Perhaps, this is God's strange way of bringing new solidarity to a nation in utter chaos of dictatorship and hit by terrorism.Although the loss of this great leader is a profound one, perhaps many more brave women might come to the fore to replace the void.Out of the storm, there comes a calm!Out of the doldrums, God ushers halcyon days!
