my Lord and Savior:
as a new year opens up, we scrutinize the old;
put away old memories, cherished as brilliant gold.
we forgive those who trespass us and help a friend in need;
lend a smile here or there and silence all old greed.
and as we dance on this new year, our hearts begin to change.
we pray on all the ways we wish our lives could rearrange.
promise to look up that old friend that once walked out our door,
and above all, Lord, we promise that we'll come to know you more.
when february rolls around, we realize in disgust
we've yet to look that friend up; our Bible's covered in dust.
and by October, new years' resolutions have been lost,
but we still prepare for next year without considering the cost.
this year starts on a tuesday, as it has many a time;
but this tuesday is just one of them in a very long line.
so to cut destructive cycles my only new years' prayer will be
that every day this year we'll think as though it's new years' eve.
in Jesus's holy name i pray,
AMEN.

This is a wonderful prayer, and lecture to all of
us who fail at what we know we should do. I really
enjoyed reading this, and good luck in the contest, and also congratulations on the trophy. -
Well done. How true it is that we make new year's resolutions and rarely keep them. Perhaps you'd like to enter this in my contest as well: http://allpoetry.com/contest/2381862
