A girl peeps out of a window
Wonders at the glitters and splendor
Lanes and by lanes dotting all over
A horn, bustle and traffic lights rent the air.
Grown to unimaginable proportions
A tiny village on a river bank not so long
Kept pace with modern times
Transformed into centers of learning, health and commerce.
People throng it from all over the globe
That changed monolithic environs to cosmopolitan
unique symphony of races and cultures
Very tough to trace the beginnings, before it took wings.
Behind the veil of light
Cries of depravity and hunger hid
That pumps the blood into its veins
A city made on the shoulders of its sweat.
A city came out as flat then grew vertical
From leveled hills and encroached rivers
Countless extinguished life on its march
As humans delight in their own makings.

This is such a great poem and you have done such a wonderful job here of describing what you see. And its so true, the sacrifices that lie beneath the surface, not many people will see. All the best for the contest.
