These great girls
Just out of school. Summer's started
And shouting into mobile phones
Is the modern way.
With 4 sisters, playing
Old ways are dying.
They laugh at fairytales
Wear jeans, denim jackets
Even the cowgirl look's getting old.
They do not see
Mother's sad Northern eyes
Nor grandma's smiles.
She used to smell of flour,
Now she smells of coconuts
And foreign holidays.
Now nothing matters-
Home is
Everywhere and nowhere baby
(as granny used to sing)
And in bright-light hospitals
Terrible beauties are born.
