There you lay upon the forest floor,
A dead bodied princess
and nothing more.
But look!
Life within your blushing cheek,
Carousing beneath your rising chest,
Dancing beneath your closed eyes.
And I,
Nothing more than an ogre about,
An egregious blight upon the world,
Grotius would sail upon his free sea without…
Curse the life within you.
He would sail without an ogre,
He would sail without me.
I bend knee and sit beside you,
Princess this forest does not serve your beauty,
But how can I speak of such a thing?
I am but an ugly, ill fitting mouton cloak,
Cast upon the world.
What might it takes to stay my hand,
This callous fist of warts and scars,
It longs to be about your throat,
To end you my sleeping princess…
But fear not,
I will not let me have you.
For I’ve many a mile to go before I sleep.
But no more than a shoulder’s turn away
from your still
sleeping form,
A turn away before I weep.
Farewell my princess,
May whatever you dream of be as kind to you as I,
A gentle ogre with gentle eyes.
