A Daughter's Love

How much more treasured could life be
knowing that you are the band-aid

that mends and patches all afflictions,

the best friend, even though some daughters

would consider you the adversary,

the smile and countenance

behind innocents heartache,

the flower that colors their garden of life,

the star that guides them

through their somber seasons,

the safety net that catches the heart when it breaks.

What more could a mother ask for

than the gift of her child's love....

I love you Julianna Rose

Author notes

The above picture is something my 17 year old daughter made me for Christmas, the best, most meaningful gift I received. She made it on a piece of construction paper with markers and stickers. I have it tacked on the wall right next to my computer. She is my reason for breathing as a lot of you know.

This is simple precious. I love how you made the border from it also. Such a wonderful job with this beautiful poem.

  • really wonderful

I think this is one of the best poems I've read.... I really liked it.... if you keep writing, I'm sure you'll get even better....
What I liked the most was: "What more could a mother ask for/than the gift of her child's love"... But there are some mothers that don't really care about their children....

You have a beautiful daughter and you're a wonderful mother. This poem is beautiful, and I surely understand you reasons for breathing. Children are amazing. Hey, I have boxes of construction paper art from my son... you should see the walls here, they are covered in art... the most precious thing to me... first thing I'd grab in a fire, besides pictures, oh, and my kids themselves, lol.

    BEAUTIFUL!

    Blessed BE!

You must have a great relationship with your daughter. This poem had so much meaning put into its words, and now I wish that I had a better relationship with my mom.

    This poem is just... stunning.

    Absolutely

Beautiful.. I got goosebumps up & down my spine while reading this. Its amazing how something handmade by one's child means the most of all. it touched my heart in many ways. a gift straight from the heart.
I understand your child being the reason for breathing, I can relate to that statement so much.
thank you for sharing this poem with me.

Beautiful tribute. To often we (that is, 'I') fail to notice the rich grounds for poetry that lie closest to us. You've shown how rich that ground can truly be.

Beautiful tribute to your daughter. I am sure the scan is nothing compared to this actual piece of her heart!

I've no concept of this type of joy, I've no children, but what wonders a child can do with arts and crafts at their fingertips!
