You had me through the summer when the heat sent sweat beads down my arms and chest-
when the nights turned into mornings while we sat on the swings down at hagar park, because, sweetie, we were only friends, right? yeah, and I would have given anything to have held your hands that day.
but back then things were different- the situation was complicated. You had her and well, i had my own set of problems. Though the entire time you couldnt make up your mind, i laid in the grass trying to find my own answers in the clouds... I prayed for the first time in my life that things between you and me would become beautiful.
If anyone had noticed the way we looked at each other I guess it would have been obvious, God only knows how many minutes we spent together. You had a slight reputation but i wasnt like that and i swear that if anything had happened differently... well, I can't say that my eyes would be so bright as they are right now with your fingers laced with mine.
Sometimes I was bare knuckled with no make-up. Home life wasn't the happiest but you stayed every waking minute by my side reassuring me that i deserved better than those sappy faerie tales. I fell asleep to the sound of your voice with your chest as my pillow.
You had me through the winter, too, when the wind would pick up and bite goosebumps into the skin on my thighs. You always laughed at how much my teeth chattered from underneath your leather jacket which you insisted on me wearing: "I'm used to the cold, baby, besides i dont want you to get sick". You were my wonderwall. Always close enough to dig my nails into but distanced enough to call me irrational. I loved you for that.
I had chapped lips and you had calloused hands so we called it even and counted the different faces of the moon. I told you how much i wished i could get out... and you promised you'd take me anywhere so long as you could stay, too.

I like this but I'm used to more unique metaphors from you. You really picked it up at the end though. These two lines...
"Always close enough to dig my nails into but distanced enough to call me irrational."
