i clutched the book in my hands with the intent of reading
but instead of knowledgable and stern, my thoughts were solely amative
you gave me that book to read.
and everything was so quiet that i could hear the neighbor's clock ticking
those steady noises laughed
and they sang of the way i adore you.
i got swallowed up in the mouths of my blankets that night
and i smiled at the likeliness of your lightbulb accusations
concerning how one might so mindlessly call this art.
you're a faultfinder-- a beautiful one, at that
but you have no idea of the pen you wield.
later in the cloudy day, my thoughts had shifted
i roamed empty hallways and was discomfitted by disappointment
at the fact that i wouldn't be seeing more of you today.
and as i wandered those lonesome halls
i wondered which rooftop would belong to you.
Author notes
