White-Out

Missing image

battling wind
blizzard
bent

needles on old pines
ticking time

bushes bristling
against lack
of rough bark

no hemmed mother
to curve a wish

ample girth
of borrowed sky
holds no embrace

like shunned child
her shadow
strokes
cold breath
of agony
in moving on
grateful
for gray wings

during white-out

I liked your take on the contest theme, Carol...this poem, written through the eyes or a bird, a seagull, all birds that struggle against the winds of life. Wonderful depth achieved here and a lovely touch of alliteration too. Yes, we must be grateful for wings... I liked this one - so thought-provoking in its brevity. Thank you for this entry.

My love of winged creatures makes me soar after reading your words my sister. Also my relation to the Bird-Clan leaves me with a great smile on my face.

I love the alliteration throughout this work. I also adore the fact that despite the fierce weather this bird as most birds Will brave the storm to see to the needs of their home and children. What a great take on peering at the sky! Thanks for this entry and we wish you the best in the comp.

    Much Love ♥

The idea of looking at the contest theme from the perspective of a bird, a mother, and a shunned child is interesting. Certainly you are so close to the earth spirits and sky dancers that you would be able to pen their energies this well into a poem. Thank you for sharing this with the contest.

Once more, you display why you are one of my very favorite Scribes ever. Beautiful, haunting, serene & lush. Good luck in the contest, my dear Friend. Wanda

Oh, such wings to fly in peace. Let there be light and the warmth of love and healing, to leave no child shunned. ~Karen

Beautifully written, as always, and so much truth! WE ALL battle our demons every day. Your last stanza, plus last line says it so poetically. As my ever sore arthritic fingers type you this rave review, your words reminded me how blessed I am to still be alive and brave the storm with my dearest and most revered friends and children!

    Love,
    Shana
