I am dormant.
I lay torpid,
And feel only the gentle warmth
A blaze alive in my heart
I feel my body beat and pulse and breathe,
And I know that I am worth something
I feel a flare of emotion
And deaden it immediately
I keep it steady,
One constant straight line
Numb until I am ready
Dead until I am alive
I am only the beep beep beep of an ECG,
The drip of an IV,
The cries of the medics
"Clear!"
I am the fizzle of electricity running through my veins
Pumping lightning into my heart
Tingling in my fingertips
I awaken,
And I lie dormant
I slumber on and off,
Confusing dreams split into horror at my expense
As I twist and turn
But, all the same,
I feel my body pulse and beat and breathe
And I know that I am worth something.
Something worth keeping.

Yes you are...
Actually this is very well written and executed. The flow was spot on and never broken for me.
I thank you for entering it here for us to view.
