Everything I wasn't thankful for, was taken.

It had been a horrible day.
I was outside,
sitting on a bench
in the rain.
angry and pitting myself,
black mascara tears
running down my face.
life was misrable
and had always been.

as the rain fell,
i was drowning in my selfpity.
"I have it so bad!
there is nothing good about my life!"
While I was thinking those thoughts,
I heard an angel laugh.
He was standing besides me,
shaking his head.
I asked him why he was
looking at me like that,
told him he shouldn't laugh,
i had a real bad life!

He sat down besides me
"is there anything
in this world you are
glad you have?
is there anything
you are thankful for?"
I answered him,
there wasn't a thing.

"very well, then take off your clothes"
I was startled by his words.
Started calling him a pervert
and sick, to ask such a thing of a girl.
"If you're not thankful for your clothes,
take them off. there are many people
that would need them more then you.
many people that would be happy to have them."

I thought for a moment
confused at what he had said.
It took me a while to overcome my pride,
before i finally admitted,
no, i'm thankful for my clothes.
but, i told him, i'm not thankful for anything else!
For my life is too misrable!

"If you are not thankful
for anything else,
I will ask of my father,
to take it away from you.
For there are others
who would rather have it."

At first this seemed
to be a grand idea.
All my troubles would
be taken from me!
but then, a thought
came into my mind,
and i was troubled.
"wait", I said to him,
"If you will take away,
all that i'm
not thankful for,
will you take away
my memories?"
He nodded,
turning to leave
to his fathers.
"If you will take away,
all that i'm
not thankful for,
will you take away
my life?"
He nodded once again.
Returning back,
to the bench
where I sat
he asked
"Is there anything
else
that you're thankful for?
besides your clothes?"
he was smiling now.
I smiled back.
" list for me
everything you are
thankful for,
and i'll ask
my father not
to take those from you"

I just sat watching the rain fall
while deep in thought.
It took me some time to notice
what I was thankful for.
but once I noticed one thing,
I noticed them all!

"I'm thankful for
my memories,
even the sad ones
for I have learned from them.
"I'm thankful for my life,
even the hard times,
for in the end
they led to the good times.
"I'm thankful for the sunset
that I see everynight,
the beauty lifts my soul.
"I'm thankful for the food,
that I get every single day.
"I'm thankful for my bed,
a nice place to sleep everynight.
"I'm thankful for my family,
even those that talk to me no more,
wonderful memories remain
of the times we had together.
maybe we could get it back... .
"If I were to make a list
of all i'm thankful for,
i'd be writing for hours.

"I'm truly thankful
for everything,
that I've ever had.
Even the sad times,
I've learned from"

The angel smiled
and left to tell his father,
of all the things I wasn't thankful for.
To have everything
I wasn't thankful for,
taken from me.

Nothing was taken from me.
Everything remained the same,
except,
I was happier.

Author notes

try it sometimes, just right a list of everything your thankful for, see how many things you come up with.

ps: i wrote this the way i did, becuase any reader, wouldn't really be interested in what i was thankful for God for.they might even get jelous because they don't have it.
but this way , i mentioned a few things that we should all be thankful for (cuz most of us have at least that). everybody has something else they are thankful for. I'm hoping this will let ppl think.

A few years ago a tourist from my country that survived the tsunami in Thailand was interviewed on TV to share her experiences. She told of the Thai who had just lost everything they had - their loved ones, the houses and goods - who went out to look for food to give to her, because she was a visitor in their country that they wanted to treat with utmost courtesy. Their immense loss did not prevent them from trying to take care of their guests. She was barely capable of understanding where the Thai got the mental power from to help a total stranger, assuming such a altruistic stance in life that had just been unspeakably cruel to them. I am happy that you on a different scale came to a similar conclusion. Stay strong and take care,
