What would happen in heaven above
If all the angels died,
Would God lock the doors ajar, or would
He leave them open wide?
Would he let the newcomers inside
Or leave them to await
His lonely choice on their coming days
And their eternal fate;
And would they hang their, in presumption,
Newly cast coats to dry,
To hear him bellow "you can't come in
Just because you have died?"
Then would they stand their ground thinking that
A grievous heart can heal,
Or would they turn their back on heaven
And retreat down the fields?
If all my love had somehow died I
Would tell all "go away!"
And although I’d hope they would wait I’d
Expect them not to stay.
