For You Daughter

We haven't been together
at Christmas time for so very long
I can't wait to hold you within my arms
my love is oh so strong.

So many things have happened
and we've missed this special day
but within my heart and mind I hold
memories of a child young and at play.

The shine that filled your tiny face
on Christmas mornings years ago
the love that welled within my heart
to see your face aglow.

As life moved on you moved away
your time filled to the max
Christmas you would spend with friends
trying hard to relax.

But this year we will meet again
and celebrate together
to see your face and let you know
I'll love you for forever.

Author notes

For my daughter. Although we are in touch regularly we haven't been together at Christmas for a few years now. It will be wonderful to see her at this time.

This is a lovely sentiment, indeed. It bought tears to my eyes. I also have a daughter but she's still little and I dread the inevitable day she leaves home to make life her own.

I invite you to read my poem "Emma" dedicated to my 6-year old daughter. Oh, how my heart will break when she grows up and moves away.

Your Christmas will be a very special one this year. I know so well how you feel and how much you miss her. Sarah arrived on Wednesday for 2 weeks so no other Christmas gift needed at our house. Best wishes in the contest.

A beautiful poem that bought a lump to my throat as I am in a very similar situation.
