night-time nomad

I wander at night, alone,
my winding paths taking me
to familiar places
and territory unknown.

To the past i go
the demon, named Regret often shadows me here
and sometimes takes hold.
i may trek back years
to the days 'innocence'.
the sights here are misted,
i keep them that way.
and i wander on.
perhaps to the time when he'd
held me close and the world was perfect.
i linger here and the demon engulfs me.

i wander to the future, too,
and Here Be Dragons.
but the demon cannot step foot in this place.
i lengthen my pace.
scenery is ever-changing here
fairytales, happy-endings galore.
i pass all that i desire and more
A new danger, longing, appears.

yes, i wander at night.
will sleep come at all?
Or will i wander 'till dawn?
i might.
