The solid foundation,
on which we depend.
Be it natural formation,
or masonry's intent.
Staved continents,
saved from consumed.
Holding us content,
from here past the moon.
Desired for beauty,
diamond crystal shines.
Hardest stone of duty,
of mechanical kind.
Etched in stone stories,
carved on cave walls.
Enlightened man's glory,
ancient pyramids tall.
Prodigal weaponry,
of defense and food.
Grinders of grainary,
and a skin tooler's loom.
Vast are the gifts,
stone bestows on mankind.
It's beautiful usefulness,
is quite simply sublime.

The entire verse whispers with a reverance of earth and her gifts. Beautiful and knowledgable, this leaves the reader with much to think about and acknowledge...for where would we be without the miracles that are stone's properties.

Oh! I loved this! It presents such a variety of how stone has built up our culture throughout time. This was put together excellantly!

This is so fluid and all encompassing. The stone is a truly marvelous object with many shapes, sizes colors, manifestations and you managed to capture all the hues of its nature within this poem. I am really excited for you in this contest! I wish you luck, but I am certain that you will end in the top three anyways!
Sincerely
~DD~
