Who will mourn my shallow grave,
Shed a tear for my dark passing,
When I'm gone like a shore-bound wave,
And black storm clouds are massing?
Will I remain when I'm gone,
Locked in hearts of those I've known,
Or forgotten before the dawn,
In spite of great love I've shown?
If I cease now to exist,
And leave this ancient Earth,
Will memory of me persist,
Of deeds I've done now since my birth?
Remember our good friends who have now died,
Fallen brothers who've for the last time sighed.
And when at last I am departed,
Bear my name in mind but be not heavy-hearted.
