Simple Child

Simple child
Give me your hand
I have envied you, you know.

Simple child
Stay close now
Where did my blissful ignorance go?

Simple child
So naïve
And yet your presence makes me strong.

Simple child
Such a shame
You will not be this way for long.

Simple child
Grant me strength
So I may shield you from the cold.

Simple child
Untainted wisdom
Lost the moment you grow old.

Simple child
Aren’t you the one
Who always answers when I call?

Clever child
Although small
Full of life and love for all.

Author notes

I miss being young and innocent, knowing nothing bad about the world and seeing everything to be perfect. Children are so naïve and yet without their innocence, how sad would the world be? I think the instincts of young children not yet tainted by life is a deeper wisdom than any other. What do you think?

    Nice

The author notes you posted line up with what I thought you were saying in this poem. I too think you took yourself back to those days as you wrote this. Good job.

I give you: 2 applauses (like the little yellow things)

I love this poem, I too have sometimes wished to be a child again, my grandkids let me do just that, in fact they encourage it.
