Phantom Pains Echo

Squinting with eyes into the night,
dreadful consume of death star's might.
Overtaken in  sadness sensed nullified,
knowing something just isn't right.

Our soul can feel faint screams of agony,
emitted through the cosmos mysteriously.
Some paralleled galaxy has fallen prey,
into vacuous hole's drawn insanity.

Is nothing sacred saved from evil's hand,
where is love of creation as felt within?
"Oh ", fallen tortured ones I feel pain,
hear your screams as fire rips you away.

My soul feels your destiny in annihilation,
Bottomed out hope of divinity's intervention.
Yet knowing positive power's salvo light,
I'll emanate love for you with all my might.

~~Suseann~~

Author notes

Yesterday our Hubble unmanned vision, sent us images of a galaxy being swallowed up under attack of a huge black hole.
Not sure if this fits the theme. But I fell strangely depressed and felt a deep hopelessness yesterday afternoon and still do. I couldn't imagine why. Until I tripped over this on a news site I visited in the wee hours of this morning. So,I had to give that event and my hurt a voice. Hence, this piece. Here is a link if anyone wishs to see. http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/2007/37/

This poem moves from the "big black hole" to the healing powers and light of love. It is dark and haunting, yet at the end there is light and hope. Somedays we do feel the cosmos around us, inside of us and then it's when poetry allows us to write towards the light. A lovely poem and a creative take on the contest theme - so much depth here and so well expressed. Great rhyming too. Thank you for this entry.

The happenings in the cosmos have a direct bearing on how we tend to feel. If indeed the moon and its various phases can affect us, so can the goings on out there in space.

I like your take on the prompt. I have had my days of staring at the indigo sky wondering what is going on out there that is impacting my life. You have made me realize that I am not alone in my sense of connectivity to all that surrounds us.

A very keen sense of the universe is what I feel after reading this well versed poetry. Thank you for this entry and we wish you the best.

I can tell that you know your science and it really shows up in this poem. I found there are some new words for me to go look up. I like this "salvo light" pair of words. There is a deep sense of brevity in this piece. Yes, those black holes do suck up other galaxies and some day we could be subject to such a thing. But as the Buddhist's say, "in time we will lose everything we love, so might as well love it seriously today."

Powerful and soul shattering. The whole sonnet was built with amazing intensity and I felt like drowning in your own depression, sweeping me into a very bad mood myself. A very deep and interesting poem. i wonder whether it is really true, whether every time we get depressed we feel the death of another life far away into space.

    Intriguing!
