The New Year's Dance

New Year’s day is approaching fast
And all our failures will be in the past
For we have now been given a chance
To join this New Year’s victory dance.

The steps are simple, not too complex
But if not careful, we might be vexed
So take it slow, one day at a time
The results, I promise, will be sublime.

Never forgetting to show our love,
  To family given us from above.
Exploring all the possibilities,
  And
Ways to overcome our frailties

Yearning to make a difference where we live,
Ever acknowledging our challenge to give.
  More of ourselves to a world filled with pain,
Aware that the sacrifice may seem in vain.
Rejoicing that we started the dance at all,
  And didn’t opt to stand on the wall.

It isn’t the end of the dance that’s the key,
But the joy that we feel, as we start to move free.
With each twirl, spin and dip, our hearts start to soar
And we never again will be as before.

Victory will be measured at the end of the day
By the steps we have taken, and our ability to say
We were successful in following through,
Strong and determined in all that we do.
