What Has Love Become?

Love is such a cheap emotion.
Easily contrived and falsely prescribed
Each and every day.

Batting eyelashes,
Smacking lips,
Playful quips,
Shaking hips.
It makes me sick
Knowing these feelings are mislabeled.
Packaged and presented with a ribbon on top.

Sex sells.
So why not sell it?
Your heart is desolate.
So why not fake it?

Is there anything to redeem us from this state of mind?
My ideals are slowly being left behind
As fantasy gives way to reality.

Everyones just trying to get a quick fix
Nights are composed of empty grabs and thrusts.
The word love becomes a mask for lust.

I feel as if I'm just watching souls disintegrate,
Morals decay, true love fade away.

What has love become?

Author notes

I'm disgusted.

You definately managed to draw me in from the first line, and I have to say you've written quite a strong and powerful poem here, although the overall feeling in it is sadness...
    Very well done!
