A young woman, not yet thirty
but she's already lost so much
Long since given up on love
that moment, that look, that touch
Looking only for conversation
a public place to nurse her drink
The bustle and noise of strangers
something to do besides just think
An older man, just past forty
comes over to talk a while
Not looking for love, or even lust
just wanting to see her smile
Too tired, too old, or so he thinks
not trying to get lucky, or score
Just wanting a friend, a smiling face
not looking for anything more
Soon a smile turns into a laugh
a laugh, then a hug, then a kiss
Alone, though it was never planned
he says 'you don't have to do this'
Within an hour she's sharing his bed
within a month she's moving in
Two weeks later comes the question
then a trip to the 'city of sin'
Six months later, and still so in love
best friends as well as husband and wife
Only looking to talk, to share a smile
finding so much more, sharing a life
Author notes
We met in February, started seeing eachother in March, moved in together in April, got engaged in May, and married in June. Neither of us was even looking for a date, lol.
