I lost the chance to love you long ago
and now I'm cold and fading with the years
that somehow slipped away within the flow
of memories and unsurrendered tears.
I lost the chance to tell you that you held
the key to solace, spirit, heart and mind,
that where you were was where His mercies dwelled;
where human love and holiness entwined.
When silence came it broke away the shell,
so coarse and dry, it crumbled into dust.
I chose the longest road, my treasures fell
along the way and rotted into rust.
I lost the chance to live and hope within
His blessings and I'll never love again.

Beautiful and bittersweet. I know, at least slightly, this feeling. It reminded me of my latest poem..

A confessional sonnet
which I appreciate very much. Why do you not enter it in the current Winklings Contest?
It would do well there I would have thought.

Wonderful to read your sonnet mastery again!
Repetition of "I lost the chance" in the first two quatrains and the couplet make for a very sad tale, and the volta for quatrain 3 is forlorn. Your iambic meter is perfect as ever, a real delight to me.
Many blessings to you, and a merry Christmas!

What a gracefully penned sonnet. You do have a special touch when it comes to writing these. This one is no exception. Simply beautiful! I am sure Ed will be touched to his heart.
