Xmas Treasure Hunt....

Giving a gift can give such joy
if you plan the way its done,
just make the giving a little diff'rent,
and turn it into a game, for fun.

many years have passed on by,
since that christmas came around,
when upon my ex, I played a joke,
before his present could be found.

Xmas morning, all I gave to him
was an envelope, tightly sealed,
a rhymed riddle, inside, to resolve
before his present would be revealed.

trailing from one room to another
A treasure hunt around the house,
watching with a smile on my face at
my increasingly frustrated spouse.

under cushions, to tops of wardrobes
even beneath the old toilet seat
a new clue he would discover
to reach his christmas present treat.

The trail continued for half an hour,
as he deciphered each vital clue,
and went on  to the hiding place,
a new envelope to review.

just before he reached the final one,
I sneaked back down the stairs,
and placed his shiny Xmas present,
upon his own living room chair.

This is so cute. I love the joy of doing things like this with gifts. This reminds me of many jokes i've done in my youth at christmas to my brother. This is just Grand Ann I love it

What a neat idea for gift giving-makes it worth while watching the face of someone finding the new clues at each location. LIked your author page - great new year's picture - the morning after the night before kind of thing. Liked this poem - good rhythm, rhyme and flow, fun to read and easy to understand too. Thanks for commenting on my poetry earlier. All the best in the new year to you and yours.

They say that it's not the gift but the thought that counts. You obviously put a great deal of thought into yours, as you did with these verses.
    Thanks for sharing.

If I was this intelligent, I'd do this for my Step-father, whom I've resided with more than my biological mother since I was 13. We're always doing stuff like this to each other, and I can't believe even YOU would do that on Christmas. But it's funny.

Nicely penned Ann. I like this a lot.

Lol This is quite a trip, and I could just imagine the two of you... hubby with his anticipation and curiosity peaked, you with your own anticipation if him finally finally finding his 'treasure' present

Best of luck in the contest, this is great

Bet this sly ploy only worked for you one year. But, it's a hoot! And you've masterfully put it in rhymed verse story telling as well.At our office gift exchange. Everone had to purchase a gender based gift under twenty dollars. Then as we opened one at a time. Each of us could take the previously openned gift of someone else. In exchange forcing them to except the one we had openned. This was so funny! Guys had to except net ladies hosery and parfumes. I had to surrender a coveted box of chocolates for a cheap set of screw drivers. The happiest amounst all of us of course. Was the last person to open. As they got to pick the best at of all gifts openned.

    Very cute

Now that is an idea I should try out. lol, Very well written. Good flow and rhyme. I really like this idea, I will have to try it. One thing though, you have an extra 't' in present in the second to last line. Thanks for sharing a christmas tradition. It makes the holidays that much more special when you have little things like this to add to the magic of the season.

I encourage you to keep writing, and Merry Christmas

    God Bless
    Tammy
