Savannah

Glittery grains of sand gliding down my skin
Like the touch of smooth silk
Caressing my Sun-soaked body

Serene, peaceful expressions of wild nature
Like that bliss of freedom
Embracing the air around me

Intoxicating my senses with its enriched
Safari - the aroma of the land of Africa:
Fire lillies and prairie trees

Tribal people and animals so free
Voodoo witches and shamans -
Surrounded by them in my daydreams

In my hazy fata morganas of the past
My romanced mirage of
My golden Savannah

Author notes

I love Africa so I wrote a poem about it. I was an African in a past life, my name was Sanyanka.
The poem's title is Savannah because it's one of my favourite names.. and it sounds almost similar to my current name - Susanna.

The meaning of the name Savannah is "Open Plain/Desert/Treeless Field". The origin of the name is Spanish.

The third stanza really stood out to me. Africa is a country that speaks to me too, and I hope one day that I'll be able to get my but out there and roam the beautiful nature this part of the world holds.

    OK.

I have to admit, I do not have an inkling as to how Africa's like.

This really helped me to widen my perspective. People always write about waterfalls, the changing seasons, etc. But you wrote about something you loved, and I admire that.

"Serene, peaceful expressions of wild nature
Like that bliss of freedom "

    Brilliant entry (:
