Christmas Truth

Standing outside the window
Cold wind on my face
Watching as they dress them up
Red velvet, white lace

Hot fires glowing in the hearth
Warming up the night
Amber flames reflect in glass
A perfect Christmas sight

Troding through the sidewalk snow
Another Christmas scene
A table set, with candles bright
Glisten crystal, so serene

In each chair, the family sits
Smiling faces glow
Hearts of love and joy abound
Christmas spirits flow

And here amid the icy street
I watch and wonder why
A scene as this should be displayed
As Christmas morn draws nigh

Was not, it in a stable manger
On a cold clear night?
When Christ was brought into this world
To show us all the light?

The light of Gods all knowing heart
The mercy of His grace
The sacrifice His son has made
To show us all His face

Should not, these windows show His face?
Should not, His name be praised?
The one whose life was born to give
Then from the grave was raised?

Let's this year our window's change
And ring a different bell
Raise up the name of the son of God
All hail EMMANUEL~!

    Doesn't anybody ...

read the rules? I was inundated with religious poems the last few contests and specifically stated I didn't want anymore. This is a contest for the other things we associate with Christmas.

From soltice pagan rite, to celebration of the Son of the Light. We get caught up in what looks good and celebrates us. In this season of giving, you are right. We should remember that we are celebrating the birth of our Saviour and perhaps be more humble and willing to share and help one another. Thanks for the lovely words, the wonderful thoughts and helping us not turn Christmas into Getmas.
    Love, Tom B.

It's easy to forget why there is a Christmas, if we are not careful to work on staying focused. Thank You for understanding my feelings.

At Christmastime, we all get "wrapped up" and stressed to "make" the perfect holiday scene for our family, a scene as unreal as most secular Christmas songs, as mistaken as
"Currier and Ive's" or any Jewelry commercial.

What is perfection? Jesus in a manger.
What shines? The star of Bethlehem, His love in our hearts.

    Wonderful poem.

Thank You for commenting on "Christmas Truth". i just think it is ashamed the way certain groups are working so hard to change what Christmas is all about...It is a religous holiday. Let it be what it is, and those who don't like it can skip it! Anyway, i will get off my soapbox now and just say have a wonderful Christmas, and thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on it...Funny how some poems just insist on being written (such as this one), while other times we have to struggle. Anyway...i am so glad you liked it.
