Dark mud, full of holes; a tangled web,
arched roots, broken limbs,
black, white and red mangrove trees.
The holes we discover are from myriad crabs;
looking closely, we see Fiddlers holding out their violins
as if ready to begin a murky soundtrack.
As the trail takes us further toward West Lake
dark tree crabs are scampering onto the boardwalk;
we spot a black vulture gliding above
and raccoons foraging beneath the foliage
Imagine how it must have been
to those who first arrived here;
how this wild land appeared.
Looking east from the observation tower,
we view the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway;
see eye to eye with the tree tops
then climb down from the sea foam clouds.
Later, beneath a frothy gray-blue
cappuccino sky, we find the mud flat trail
and set out on a carpet of brown pine needles
but alas, it begins to rain
So we head back towards the parking lot
past displays of West Indian lilac,
Sweet Acacia pepper like pods;
I have noted all their names.

A beautifully descriptive piece, laden with the most appropriate imagery--you have pictured the scene with poetic accuracy. Very well done!
