Like a young child coloring with crayons,
time scribbled lines upon ancient rocks.
Ocher pigments dust the canyon floor,
draping the bushes in smoky frocks.
Muffled murmurs ricochet off shear
cliff walls, echoing the softest sound.
Flora and fauna flow into view,
as serpentine waters eat up the ground.
Smooth shapes are intricately sculpted,
creating a maze full of twists and turns.
Embedded with tiny quarts crystals,
monoliths sparkle as daylight burns.
Sunset paints the Colorado River
in crimson shades, where rusty rocks bleed.
Its yearly deluge flows to the sea,
grinding out gorges at breakneck speed.
A star studded sky of twinkling lights,
forms a backdrop for a pocked faced moon.
Night pours its dark ink into the chasm,
encasing life in a black cocoon.
