There was a little spruce tree,
Growing in a tiny pot.
He was the smallest specimen,
Outside a busy grocer's shop.
All the other Christmas trees,
Were tall and rather haughty.
They were so rude and hurtful,
Which really was quite naughty.
They sneered at him and shouted,
"Hey titch! you'll never sell,
Your needles are all droopy
And you've snapped a branch as well."
As the customers came and went,
Buying all the big strong trees.
The little tree felt lonely,
"Won't someone buy me please?"
A week or so went by
And soon came Christmas Eve.
A little boy walked in the shop
And said "Hello, I'm Steve"
"I'd like to buy a Christmas tree,
But I've only got a pound"
"How about this little one?"
The grocer said "I'll bring it round"
He placed the little Christmas tree,
In the corner of the room.
Steve watered it and nurtured it
And the tree began to bloom.
The needles looked so fresh and firm,
With pretty fairy lights, adorning.
Steve thought the tree was bigger,
When he woke up Christmas morning.
The little spruce was really grateful,
That he'd found a lovely home.
He stands in Steven's garden now,
Oh, how that tree has grown!

Congrats on the honorable mention trophy. This was very sweet. It made me wonder, why are there no claymation holiday specials about a Christmas tree??? I mean isn't that one of the BIGGEST things about Christmas? Well... anyway, I really enjoyed your write. Well done.

Awesome!
I really enjoyed this poem!It has great ryhmn and flows very well! The message is true-what is larger is not always better.I had a Charlie Brown tree one year. I had just moved and had no ornaments.I made a garland of dancing victorian girls, angels to hang, homemade dough ornaments, cranbery and popcorn garlands. It was the most beautiful tree I'd ever seen!It was so much fun to make those ornaments with my daughter. She was in third grade.
