Listened To, Finally

Wanting nothing of the summer
Though the night before she prayed
For happiness not for herself
But for who she saw that day

The call that made her shake
The things that made her smile
The tone that flushed her face
She was happy all the while

The little things the
"Maybe I would"
The tought of it all
That maybe they could

But possibly forgotten
Her eyes turned red
And she couldn't really care
How many tears were shed

Later on they'd speak
And excuses would be made
She'd done her share of waiting
Now she'd never be the same

A walk up the hill thinking
"What should I expect?
Hearts I cannot control,
Looks I cannot perfect."

Nerves and the sun
Beating on black and jeans
She didn't know how to feel
And wondered what that means

The walk out of the house
That smile that simple wave
Those pretty eyes showed pain
Maybe worsened through the days

A little worse than what she'd thought
Sbut the smile was so pure
He was glad to see her?
Of this she was unsure

They sat and grass was picked
She knew she'd hear no lies
The first thing that he said
"I was supposed to die..."

A voice so cold behind the proof
Would be just the start...
Behind the mask was the truth
That really broke her heart
