Quiet Night
"Quiet night." said the shepherd as his wife went off to sleep.
"I'll be with you in a while. I just need to check the sheep."
And he wandered through the barnyard, to the pasture near the town
When he went to climb the hill he saw two buddies coming down
"Quiet night." was the greeting and they walked on through the night
In a darkness that was lit up by one star that seemed so bright.
So they wandered in the starlight 'til they reached the town's small inn;
Saw some light out in the barn there, pushed the door and walked on in.
"Quiet night." said a stranger with his face lit up with joy.
"Here's my wife; her name is Mary. We just had a baby boy."
There were other strangers came in. They drank milk, ate cheese and bread.
It was like a celebration out there in that dusty shed.
That bright star, it still was shining like a beacon purest white
And they heard a far off singing, somewhere in that quiet night.
On a quiet night, great things can happen.
A quiet night can shake the Earth.
A quiet night, can be so precious
And you don't know what its worth.
The shepherd left with all the others, wandered home through dewy grass.
Not aware that any event of import had come to pass.
Kissed his wife and close they snuggled. Then they held on through the night.
That's the story of a shepherd on just another quite night.
On a quiet night, great things can happen.
A quiet night can shake the Earth.
A quiet night, can be so precious
And you don't know what its worth.
Seek quiet nights with friends and family
Tend your flock, walk in the light
Share with others, when you can and
Don't forget, that quiet night.
No, don't forget that quiet night.
Author notes
Sorry, it isn't free verse. Actually; it's a song. I never know what I'm going to write when I start, but I started to write what you wanted. Peace.
