I wish I could take the world into my hand
and use it like paints or to draw in the sand,
and I'd make a picture ever so grande
that would draw visitors from all over the land:
I wish I could catch a storm in a cage
and silence the war that inside it will wage
and can conquer its power in spite of my age
and tame it so that it's no longer enraged.
I wish I could freeze everything in its place,
perhaps quiet down this mad Human Race,
and all cultures and customs we all could embrace
and together the waves hand in hand we would chase.
I wish I could pin down a wave on the beach,
and maybe together that goal we could reach,
when we love all our fellows, a word to them each,
and then learn from Before and the lessons they teach.
And I wish that everyone followed their heart;
we're stronger together than when we're apart.
'Tis a lesson we learned right from the start.
That's the picture I'd draw, a great work of art.
