If I close my eyes I see the earth turn
back to a time when you were mine.
We were together but failed to learn
how to swim in a sea of brine.
You learned to fly and left the ground
while I wept there in the sand.
If I close my ears I can hear the sound
of your wings as you cross the land.
When I stand up I fall through space
my feet are still merely fins.
If I reach out to feel your face
I find you gone and hurt begins.
If I close my mouth the words will start
stay here with me my butterfly.
I have not evolved but I have a heart
and without you I will die.
If I open my eyes I fail to see
why I didn't change as did you.
There must be a reason that I'm still me
Some special thing I must do.
So fly on above this worldly place
and when my grief is through,
I will accept my gills with grace
and learn to live without you.

I love this poem of acceptance. The flow is just wonderful, and I like the thought of evolution in poeple live's and love's. Thank you very much for entering it.

This was a very early poem, I must have been dwelling on being dumped or something
You are right, there is something on this site for every mood known to man.
